So I'll second the suggestion to check out Brother's lineup. I use LD ink in them too, and it hasn't caused any issues. In fact, they both just recently self-updated their firmware and their fax software (They did ask me first.) That was a couple years ago, and both of those $40 printers are still going strong. Liked it so much I got another one for downstairs so I wouldn't have to walk up and down. I had a Brother mono laser that worked well, so I looked into their AIO's.īought a Brother MFC-J485DW for $40 at BB. HP's software for their AIO's generally sucks, so when it was time to replace mine, I looked elsewhere. Soooo.check out what Brother has to offer.'-}}^^ This. Soooo.check out what Brother has to offer.'-}} I ended up ordering a Brother 5470DW laser printer and I've been quite pleased with it. At the time, HP's website was just gawdawful-this was a year or so ago when HP was in the midst of splitting itself-and thinking of how well my sister's Brother AIO was working, I decided to see what Brother had to offer with respect to monochrome laser printers. I lived with it for a number of years but finally decided to get a new printer. I had always been an HP laserjet user-monochrome-for day to day printing having owned over the years an HPIIP, HP6MP and an HP2200D but when I had my first Win7 system custom built, I discovered that HP's Win7 drivers pretty much sucked. It's now in it's 4 or 5th year of use and still working well. We decided that even if it only lasted a year, it would be worth the cost. We were wandering the printer aisles at Office Depot when we stumbled across a Brother AIO (MFCJ410W) for $60 (!) and.it was pretty cute as it had a rather small footprint-particularly for an AIO. On our way out to her car we ran into a neighbor who told us to check the local Office Depot as they often ran unadvertised sales. She wanted an AIO which I don't particularly care for but I suggested that we get a quick replacement printer and that I'd research AIO's for her. Thanks in advice for any advice and/or recommendations!Ī few years ago, my sister's printer died. I also still have my 17 year old HP Photosmart P1000 that's been sitting in my attic since I got the C7280, but that one's probably not worth messing with (I'd need to drop $$ into some new cartridges). Maybe I'm better off just printing color photos at a local drugstore? The scanner on my C7280 still work OK but is kinda noisy (makes some noises it didn't when it was new). Or should I just pass on getting another color printer altogether? I also have a Brother HL-2270DW monochrome laser that's been good except for needing to be power cycled too much lately when trying to print to it (starting happening when I moved from a wireless to Ethernet). I'd rather pass on HP if possible, but will consider HP if none of the other makers are really any better these days. If my C7280 isn't worth messing with, are there any good color all-in-ones (either inkjet or laser) that have all the features that it has (including cheap and plentiful aftermarket ink available on Amazon and LD Products)? My budget is $200 or under. Do you think either option is worth the hassle on my now 9 year old printer with a dead fax module? I also found another video showing how to remove the printhead and rinse it. I found a video on Youtube where a guy who had a clear refillable HP 02 cartridge set injected into them a solution of distilled water, ammonia (he also said Windex would work too) and 70% isopropyl alcohol, but it took him a few hours to do the cleaning. This self-test report shows that about 30+% of the nozzles on the black head aren't printing, even after many head cleaning cycles. I ran one of the hidden nozzle self-test reports (hit * and # on the keypad, enter 123 on the keypad, it's under one of the menu areas). The black printhead appears to be clogged (I've done quite a few printhead cleaning cycles tonight and wasted a good bit of color ink, no real improvement on the black printing). My HP Photosmart C7280 all-in-one is nearing its end I think. Merry Christmas folks (for those that observe it)!
